CAA moves to a new centre

On Friday, the 9th of July, CAA held an open day in their new centre at Gogerddan. CAA moved to the Gogerddan campus in April, and the guests at the open day were given a guided tour of the new offices and offered some light refreshment.

CAA have been producing materials of a very high standard in Welsh and English for 28 years - varying from books, CDs and interactive CD-ROMs, to multimedia packs and online activities. Since it was established in 1982, it has produced around 2,000 publications.

Giant floor map of Britain for children - only 6 left!

The Centre for Educational Studies has recently published an innovative giant floor map of Britain.

The map's most striking feature is its size - 5 metres x 4 metres - so pupils will have plenty of opportunities to walk over it and take part in various activities. Made from a waterproof and flame retardant mesh fabric, it can be used inside or outside and can be easily cleaned.

The original idea was thought up by Ann Jones, who used to be head of History department at Cefn Hengoed Community School, near Swansea.

"This resource will be useful in many areas of the primary and secondary curriculum," said Lynwen Jones, Director of the Centre for Educational Studies, "such as History, Geography, PSHE, and even Mathematics! It will also ensure that our children get to know the British Isles better by participating in interesting and practical activities."

The map itself is a relief map of the British Isles, showing the main rivers, lakes and mountain ranges, and including a compass and scale for reference. The map is free of text, but capital cities and some historically significant settlements are marked with a dot. The bilingual accessory pack that accompanies the map includes a complete set of place names; 20 symbols to represent the main minerals and industries of Britain; 40 arrows in two sizes and four colours; and a fully labelled version of the map on an A3 laminated sheet, which can be displayed on a wall.

To order your map and bilingual accessory pack for only £199, contact us now. There are only 6 maps left, so it's first come, first served...! We will not be printing any more maps after these have gone.
